dr Dan Gubler, PhD bio professor, often shares health advice and tips with his TikTok followers.

But his latest advice has caused a stir.

In the video, which has now been viewed more than 1.8 million times, he explains: “Recently, many clinical studies have appeared showing that frequent burning of candles indoors can cause serious health problems.

“Including inhibiting the ability of cells, particularly in the bladder, to grow normally.

“When we think of pollution, we think of one thing outdoors, but indoor pollution, caused by burning candles, air fresheners and other sources, is a big problem

“Candles are made from cheap paraffin wax, they’re made of artificial fragrances and colors, and when we burn them they give off carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, benzopyrene and other volatile compounds.

“They’re not good for the body, they affect the body’s ability to reproduce.”

He adds: “Be careful when lighting candles in a well-ventilated space every now and then. I wouldn’t worry about it, but a chronic burn could be a big deal.”

Although dr Dan’s advice, shared with good intentions, has infuriated candle fans.

“Jesus. Can I have something nice?” commented one viewer.

Another added: “You can pry my Bath and Body Works from my cold dead hands.”

“CANDLES ARE MY MAIN SOURCE OF JOY, WHAT DO I HAVE LEFT,” joked another.
