TIKTOK is filled with weird and wonderful trends.
But a doctor has now urged social media users to stop engaging in dangerous ‘flex’ videos.
Posting for his followers, one TikTok Doctor, Dr. Fayez Ajib was shocked at the versatility of a TikToker.
He responded to a woman who posted the clip and said, “I’m 20 years old and I’ve never met anyone who can do this.”
She then sat on a wooden chair before bending her legs all the way towards her.
The woman is wearing cat socks and can show the user the front of her socks, due to how much she can bend her legs.
She does this move with both feet and says, “Look at my cat socks, pretty cool. I can bend both knees backwards.”
The video then cuts in with Dr Ajib, who says: “What’s going on with the hypermobility going on on TikTok? Stop doing that.”
Hypermobility is the term used to describe the ability of a joint to move beyond its normal range of motion.
This is a common syndrome and may be present in only a few joints or may even be widespread.
This condition is most common in women and often in children and adolescents.
It tends to decrease with age and for some people can be an advantage.
People with hyperkinesia typically have more range of motion, so this can benefit professions like athletes, gymnasts, and dancers.
High mobility makes the connective tissue more elastic than it should be, and it is this connective tissue that holds us together.
If you constantly weaken it then you run the risk of injury because you are putting stress on your tendons.
By going beyond the normal range of flexibility, you can experience minor injuries that can lead to dislocation.
High mobility means your joints are more flexible than others.
If this causes you pain, it could be Hypermobility Syndrome or EDS, which are very similar conditions. Symptoms include:
- Increased joint mobility
- Loose/unstable joints prone to dislocation
- Joint pain / joint pain
- Extremely tired/tired
- Skin that bruises easily
- Digestive problems like heartburn and constipation
- Dizziness or increased heart rate after standing up
- Problems with internal organs
- Problems with bladder control
