Suzanne Morphew disappeared on Mother’s Day on May 10, 2020, in the Salida area, leaving behind two adult daughters – Mallory, 21, and Macy, 17.
Investigators found an item that likely belonged to Suzanne, who was 49 years old at the time of her disappearance.
Nearly two years later, Suzanne’s body has yet to be found, but Barry Morphew has been arrested in connection with her disappearance.
“Today is not a day to celebrate, nor does it mark the end of this investigation,” Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said.
“Instead, it is the next step in this very difficult but very important journey as we seek justice for Suzanne and her family.”
Spezze added that Suzanne Morphew loves her two daughters dearly and has a passion for life.
“I believe people like Suzanne are a rare find and those who know her are really lucky,” he said.
Both Mallory and Macy stood by their father’s side and attended most of his trials.
He was released on bail on September 20, 2021, and his trial is scheduled for May 2022 regarding the disappearance of his wife.

What happened to Suzanne Morphew?
Suzanne Morphew disappeared on Mother’s Day 2020 when she was supposed to leave home for a bike ride.
Her bicycle was later found abandoned near a roadside ledge near her home but investigators found no sign of blood or struggle.
Her hydration backpack and water bottle were still found inside her car, leading investigators to believe the scene may have been staged.
Evidence found in the case of Suzanne’s disappearance included a spy pen hidden in the couple’s bedroom that recorded the affair.
Investigators found the man was married with six children, but his alibi that day was cleared.
A year after Suzanne went missing, Barry Morphew was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, although Suzanne’s body has not been found.
In the arrest affidavit, prosecutors said, “It was clear that Barry couldn’t control Suzanne’s insistence on leaving him and he used the one thing he’d done all his life – hunt and control Suzanne as he hunted and controlled animals.”
