Diane Kruger there is a rocky road to enter Quentin Tarantinobelong to “Inglourious Basterds“As Bridget Von Hammersmark, a German film star turned Allied spy during World War II. She details how it plays out on a recent episode of the podcast “Reign with Josh Smith”.
“He auditioned for everyone,” said Kruger, who is currently promoting the new action-thriller “The 355.” said. “He didn’t want to audition me because he saw a movie I was in that he didn’t like. “I had to pay for my flight from New York to Germany because he wouldn’t, although obviously, he’s American, he wouldn’t see me in America,” Kruger said. “So I had to jump through all these hoops that definitely got my nose off, but I was like, ‘You know what? Damn it! I’m just going to do it and prove to him that I can do it. ‘”
She added, “Thankfully it all worked out, but sometimes it just seems so unfair and you have to change the story.”
Kruger also said this moment could be enlightening for the director. “I also think for him, it must have been a lesson. Sometimes you’re the one putting out – and I’m sure I’m guilty of that too – you put everyone in the box. You think they’re going to be one-way and then they’re not at all.”
Kruger’s performance in “Basterds” earned her a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for best supporting actress, as well as critical acclaim.
