Police have arrested Castillo’s ex-husband and Hawthorne resident Zarbab Ali, 25, in connection with her initial disappearance and eventual murder.

Castillo was last seen Thursday by her sister, with whom she was staying with her two boys, aged two and five.

Ali, the father of her children, was one of the last people to enter her home before authorities discovered the gory scene.

“On the evening of November 10, 2022, the Simi Valley Police Department responded to the home of Rachel Castillo for a call regarding suspicious circumstances,” Simi Valley Police Department said in a statement Friday night.

“Following further investigation, a significant amount of blood was found at her home. Rachel’s whereabouts are unknown. Given the circumstances, it is believed that Rachel is in danger.”

The victim’s sister, Emily, said when she returned to her home in California on Thursday, Castillo was missing and there was a lot of blood.

“As soon as I saw the blood, I knew something was wrong,” Emily told KABC-TV.

“So I called my mom to let her know to come over, and then I called 911 right away.”

Emily reportedly searched the home for her sister before her mother and police arrived.

She then moved away from the property so as not to disturb a possible crime scene.

Before discovering Castillo’s body, her mother, Robyn, spoke of the then-missing woman as a “really great mother to her sons, a good daughter, a good sister, and a good friend.”

Robyn said Castillo’s sons, ages 2 and 5, were picked up by their father on the morning of the disappearance, according to CNN.

She spoke of desperately searching for information that could lead to finding her daughter before she was pronounced dead.

“We’re hoping that someone has information and gets in touch so we can get her home to her family and sons,” Robyn told CNN.
