Desperate Newcastle fan sells CAR to fly back from Australia to Carabao Cup final – but there’s a catch

A cash-strapped Newcastle fan sold his CAR so he could fly home from Australia to see them in the Carabao Cup final – but he may be in for a shock.

Desperate Dan Gordon is hoping his beloved Magpies win their first major trophy in 68 years.

So he asked Mama Jeni to sell his red Vauxhall Corsa for an undisclosed price so he could afford a plane ticket.

Jeni, 53, told ChronicleLive: “He’s a banger! He paid for his flight home before they won on Tuesday.”

She shared how super fan Dan, despite working on a remote farm Down Under, drives 40 minutes to a pub every time they’re on TV.

With a plane ticket in hand, he is scheduled to arrive in London from Sydney on February 23.

He will meet friends in the capital three days later ahead of the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United.

But despite the extraordinary effort Geordie went to to raise the money, there’s no guarantee he’ll actually make it to Wembley.

That’s because Dan, who left for Oz in August, gave his season pass to brother Dale.

That means the Newcastle Whickham-area couple will only qualify for one ticket, leaving the brothers in a pickle unless Dan manages to find a replacement ticket.

It could prove disastrous for the carless 22-year-old, who now faces missing out on Newcastle’s first major trophy since 1976.

And to add insult to injury, his older brother David, his uncle and his cousin are all on their way to the big game with hotels booked.

“God knows what’s going to happen,” her mother joked.

The game starts at 4.30pm on Sunday 26 February and will be streamed live on Sky Sports.

Eddie Howe’s side haven’t won a major trophy in 68 years as he tries to make history.

According to SkyBet, Newcastle win 1/1, United 8/11.
