American businessman Chris Kirchner’s offer to buy Derby County has been ACCEPTED by the authorities.
Kirchner looked out of the running to buy Derby around Christmas as he withdrew his bid and turned his attention to Preston North End.
But talks with Preston collapsed last week and he has now been named the preferred bidder for Derby.
A statement from Derby Joint Administrators said: “Following a rigorous and well-documented marketing process, Derby County Football Club Joint Administrators have accepted an offer from Chris Kirchner to take Derby County Football Club out of administration.
“This follows receiving his recent offer for the club.
“The offer is for the purchase of the football club only, with the terms of the club’s ongoing occupation of Pride Park stadium subject to negotiation with outside stakeholders.
“Mr Kirchner had originally expressed an interest in acquiring the club in late 2021 and the joint administrators have welcomed Mr Kirchner’s renewed interest.
“Discussions have taken place with key stakeholders and Mr Kirchner has been named the club’s preferred bidder with immediate effect.
“The joint administrators have agreed a period of exclusivity with Mr. Kirchner and his advisers during which further operational, commercial and contractual discussions will take place.”
