Deputy commander of nuclear submarine arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting subordinates

THE deputy commander of a nuclear-armed submarine has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a subordinate.

The naval officer was relieved of his post and marched off the base pending an investigation.

The sub’s executive officer has been accused of assaulting a young man in the latest sex abuse scandal to shake up the silent service.

A source said the lieutenant commander was “removed from the sub without prejudice while the investigation continues” and he is assisting Royal Navy Police in their investigation.

A Navy spokesman said: “Comment would not be appropriate.”

It comes days after the chief of the Navy, Admiral Sir Ben Key, ordered an inquiry into “disgusting” allegations of decades of misuse of nuclear submarines.
