DEP Issue Code Orange Air Quality Day for Mon Valley – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Mon Valley is on an Air Pollution Alert both today and Wednesday.

Much of the area will see mild weather today with 60s highs lower, but Code Orange Air Quality Action Day goes into effect for the City of Clairton, Glassport, Liberty Borough, Lincoln Borough and PortVue.

The state’s Department of Environmental Protection said that in issuing the warning, a strong temperature inversion with mild or very mild southwesterly winds is likely to contribute to an increase in average daily concentrations of fine particulate matter in the atmosphere. Code Orange strip.
On Air Quality Action Day, young children, the elderly and people with breathing problems should limit outdoor activities.
Companies that contribute most to particulate pollution in the Mon Valley region are required to temporarily reduce particulate emissions.
