Demaryius Thomas is not just a NFL player. He’s someone’s child, someone’s grandchild, and someone’s friend. In fact, given the outpouring of grief over his passing, it’s hard to say that Demaryius Thomas didn’t touch the lives of everyone he met.
He has no deeper connections in the NFL than the ones he has in Denver. He was drafted by the Broncons in 2010 in the first round of the NFL draft and spent until the 2018 season with them. He helped the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 and was a key component of their offensive behavior. So it’s no surprise that dedications flooded their game against the Detroit Lions today.
Demaryius Thomas is remembered by Broncos fans and players
Demaryius Thomas died at the age of 33 from medical problems, believed to have resulted from surviving a 2019 car crash. He passed away too soon and those who supported him throughout. His career has collectively spoken of praise for his final run.
His face was on the giant screen. There are 88 stickers on the helmet and on the field. He was there everywhere, his presence frequent in the game.
Because they believed Demaryius Thomas was on their side mentally, playing wide as he had done so many times in his famous orange shirt, the team let Courtland Sutton receive the ball wide.
The offense stood upright in the honor of Demaryius Thomas until the clock ticked up. Only then did they put 11 men on the field. The Detroit Lions have played their part in this by appropriately attending to the present moment by taking a stand.
While applause poured down the stands from the fans, many of them wore Demaryius Thomas’ shirt numbers. Some said prayers in silence while others wiped away tears.
