Deli employee shot, killed during robbery attempt in Flatbush, Brooklyn

BROOKLYN (WABC) – A fast-food employee was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in Brooklyn.

The incident was reported Tuesday night inside the Flatbush Deli Corporation Deli Grocery located at 803 Flatbush Ave. around 7:45pm

Police say a man entered with a gun and demanded cash. A fight ensued between the suspect and a 20-year-old victim, a male employee behind the counter, when the gun went off.

The victim was shot once in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a person of interest is being questioned at this time. It is unclear if he is a suspect or if he will be charged.

Neighbors said they knew the victim and were shocked.

“He’s always been kind – if I was as short as 25 cents he’d take my wallet – I can’t believe it,” resident Nicholas Correa said. “I wish there was more of a police presence in the neighborhood.”

Additionally, authorities say that four police officers were involved in an accident on Church Avenue and Flatbush Avenue.

It’s not clear if they were reacting to the scene or trying to arrest someone of interest.

Four officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.
