David Raya’s agent warns Brentford of £40m price cut as goalkeeper eyes Chelsea transfer

BRENTFORD has been warned to slash the price of David Raya lest he risk losing him for nothing – after a possible replacement has been signed.

The Bees keeper has turned down several contract offers but Thomas Frank wants £40m for the Spaniard.

Brentford signed Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flekken for £11m from Freiburg.

Raya, who is a Tottenham target and is being pursued by Chelsea, has a year left on his contract.

His agent Jaume Munell said: “If Brentford doesn’t lower the price on David Raya this summer, we’re ready to go as a free agent in a year.”

Raya’s representatives are urging the Bees to cut their price by more than half as they believe a asking price of around £15m-20m is reasonable.

After signing Flekken to a four-year deal, Frank said: “We are very happy to have signed Mark.”

“He is a player with a lot of quality who will strengthen our goalkeeping group.”

“He has a lot of experience and comes to us after two great seasons with Freiburg, who just had a top season in the Bundesliga, finished fifth and qualified for the Europa League.”

Raya joined Brentford from Blackburn in 2019 and quickly made a name for himself at Gtech Community Stadium.

Since then, the goalkeeper has kept 54 clean sheets in 161 appearances.

The Spain international has also been linked with Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

United are reportedly looking at the 27-year-old as a possible replacement for David de Gea, whose contract expires on June 30.
