MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper David de Gea has been dropped from the Spain squad.
Spain will play friendlies against Albania and Iceland later this month.
And although De Gea has been Man Utd’s standout this season, he has been left out of Luis Enrique’s 23-man squad.
Spain’s Euro 2020 Player of the Year, Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon, and Premier League duo Robert Sanchez and David Raya have all been called up.
De Gea has made 45 appearances for his country, with his debut against El Salvador in 2014.
But his last appearance came late last year in a 0-1 Nations League loss to Ukraine.
De Gea not being called up to the national team could be a blessing for both the player and Man Utd.
The team was given some time off before the international break after they disappointedly left the Champions League against Atletico Madrid.
And with United with nothing left to play but a place in the top four, having their players refreshed and available for the rest of the season could give them an edge over their rivals.
Arsenal are currently in fourth place after a steady season under Mikel Arteta, but the Gunners don’t have to play football in Europe.

Arteta’s men have a one-point advantage over United and have TWO games in their hands.
Despite not having to worry about European matches or the FA Cup, Arteta expressed his displeasure with Arsenal’s fixture schedule.
“Thank you very much to the Premier League for doing that,” he said.
“And they did it again when we had to play Chelsea and Manchester United.
“So if they want to give them any advantage, I tell them today, thank you very much for doing that.”
