David de Gea faces Man Utd exit on free transfer with club ‘unwilling to trigger 12-month extension’

DAVID DE GEA faces a free transfer in the summer as Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag looks to bring in a new goalkeeper.
De Gea is reportedly keen to stay but the Red Devils appear reluctant to trigger a 12-month contract extension.

Heaven Germany say United are not yet considering keeping De Gea beyond June and Ten Hag are “open” to signing a replacement.
The Spaniard’s departure would cut another hefty chunk of Old Trafford’s payroll following the sudden departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
De Gea, 32, is said to be making more than £300,000 a week as he has been a regular pick since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
United remain interested in Porto’s Diogo Costa, who became Portugal’s first choice during the World Cup.

Ten Hag said of De Gear before the break for Qatar: “Personally I like him, I’m really good to work with him.
“But first we’ll go into winter and then we’ll talk about how to deal with such situations.
“We’re just thinking about performance, we still have a lot of games ahead of us, so I don’t want to be bothered by conversations.”
De Gea bounced back on form last season and rival Dean Henderson was loaned to Nottingham Forest this season.

But he never fully convinced Ten Hag.
The Dutchman is known to prefer goalkeepers who are more comfortable with the ball at their feet.
And De Gea’s mixed fortunes this season have been summed up as he missed out on Spain’s World Cup squad.
Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and Brentford’s David Raya went to Qatar.
Athletic Bilbao hero Unai Simon, 25, was the first choice in Qatar – a month after he was linked with United.
