Brooks was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin lymphoma last October but plans to make a comeback in the new season.

Bournemouth tweeted: “Things you like to see. Nice to see you back under things @DRBrooks15.”

The Welshman is hoping for an impressive return to the Premier League for Scott Parker’s newly promoted side.

Then Brooks, who joined forces with Robert Page’s side for the play-off win against Ukraine, will look to make his way back to the national team in time for November’s World Cup.

Brooks is now cancer-free after being diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin lymphoma last October.

And team-mate Chris Mepham believes Brooks can play a key role for Wales in Qatar.

He said: “There’s no hiding, it’s been a really hard and long road for David and his family.

“It was great for him to be part of the squad. He picks up the place with its history. It really puts things in perspective.

“As a team, it’s amazing that we can offer him something to look forward to.

“But it’s a realistic goal for him to come back at the World Cup.

“Hopefully he can present himself at this level again.

“He has to listen to his body and make sure he ticks off all the checklists he needs.

“But realistically he has a few months to build his fitness and rebuild his physique.

“If he does that, I’m sure he’ll be in a good place in November.”
