Who is George Young?

George Jung was one of the biggest drug smugglers in the US in the 70’s and early 80’s, the Americans under the name “Boston George” and his Colombian friends and co-conspirators under the name “El Americano”. He was implicated in the Medellin cartel believed to be responsible for 85% of the cocaine smuggled into the US.

He was born on August 6, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts to parents Frederick and Ermine Jung. He enrolled at Weymouth High School but failed to complete his studies at the University of Southern Mississippi. Although he was not an excellent student, he was a great athlete and played football for the school team. His life changed completely when he dropped out of college and started working with marijuana.

His daughter Kristina Sunshine Jung

George Jung married a woman named Mirtha in 1977. It’s unclear how the two met, but considering Marta was a drug addict, it’s safe to assume they met thanks to drugs. Mirtha was his wife when he worked for the Medellin Cartel and although the marriage didn’t last long, the two had a daughter named Kristina, who was born on August 1, 1978. She had a difficult childhood, as both parents were in the Medellín cartel drug business. George’s parents looked after her while George and Mirtha were away. Everyone wants to know if she had any contact with her father while he was in prison and there are rumors that she visited him several times in 2002 and thereafter. Now their relationship is in drastically better shape. Even on her Instagram profile, she writes in the description that she is a daughter of Mirtha Jung and Boston George, or as she would say – “Smuggler’s Daughter”. They even started a joint venture and are now selling wardrobes. It seems that in her youth Kristina completely forgave her father for his absence.

arrested

In the period after leaving college, George began smuggling marijuana. He mostly worked on his free time, but one day he was caught with 660 pounds of marijuana. He was placed in a prison cell with Carlos Lehder, who was in prison for stealing a car. However, these two men were capable of much greater things. When they left, they began to implement their plan. Jung was tasked with finding two women who would be transporting cocaine to Antigua in Samsonite suitcases—at the time, few people knew what cocaine was. To George’s surprise, these women succeeded and it was the start of George and Carlos’ smuggling business. George used a smuggling method still unknown to Colombians, transporting cocaine on stolen planes owned by the Medellín cartel. Carlos eventually got rid of George, who actually continued to work independently. However, he was soon arrested at his birthday party for possessing a few pounds of cocaine. Although he was soon released on bail, George was returned to prison again after being arrested by a friend who worked for the DEA. This time his sentence was 60 years in prison.

In order to have his sentence reduced, George had to inform Carlos, but only after Pablo Escobar, the leader of the Medellin cartel, gave his approval. When he struck a deal with the DEA, his sentence was reduced to 20 years in prison, and George was released in 2014. After that, he was again in prison for nine months, but this time for violating his sentence. Therefore, in 2017, he finally got out of prison and returned to his hometown, where he was surprised that everyone accepted his return very well.

net worth

This man’s net worth has varied over time. He was on the verge of bankruptcy as a student, made a fortune in the 70’s and 80’s, and today his main income comes from the fashion line he and his daughter run. He published a book about himself and also made money from the Blow film. His net worth is currently reliably estimated at just $10,000, significantly less than he made as a drug smuggler in the Medellin cartel when he was making $15 million per tour.

Is he dead?

Though there have been frequent rumors of his death, George is alive and in incredibly good shape after his time in prison or cocaine use. He’s trying to make the most of the time he has left and fully reunite with his daughter Cristina, who is back living in Massachusetts.
