Actually, the striker wants to seal a deal with the Reds by the end of the week, if that’s possible.

The Merseysiders are discussing an £80m deal with the Lisbon giants, including add-ons.

Negotiations are progressing quickly as Liverpool have also offered the Uruguay International a lucrative long-term deal.

The 22-year-old is seen as a potential replacement for Sadio Mane, whose contract expires next year and is unlikely to be renewed amid strong interest from Bayern Munich.

The FA Cup holders are keen to secure Nunez before giving Mane the green light to join Bayern.

The forward has also been linked with rivals United looking to add some firepower after their worst Premier League season.

The Uruguayan enjoyed a stunning season in the Primeira Liga and Champions League with Benfica.

The centre-forward collected a total of 34 goals and four assists in 41 games.

Nunez joined the Portuguese team from Almeria in 2020, just a year after his move to Spain from Penarol.

Since then, the versatile attacker has recorded 47 goals and 16 assists in 84 games in all competitions for Benfica.
