Danger! Masters contenders unite in new video to guess opponent questions – but fans spot ‘annoying’ issue

The six Masters candidates from JEOPARDY! have starred in a new promo video to get fans excited ahead of the May 8th premiere.

James Holzhauer, Amy Schneider and their four other up-and-coming foes took a cute quiz to answer clues about each other, which some have complained weren’t “in Jeopardy! format”!

The highly anticipated special, hosted by Ken Jennings, 48, will air over three weeks on ABC and Hulu.

The cast includes James, Amy, Matt Amodio, Sam Buttrey, Andrew He and Mattea Roach.

The fan-favourite nominees will compete for $500,000 over a three-week competition across 10 one-hour two-game episodes in different pairings.

Danger! Masters will air while Mayim Bialik wraps up the regular season starting May 1st.

Danger! teamed all six masters for a video quiz made up of little things about the other contestants.

The video began with the caption, “We tested our masters on how well they know each other and we scored points (Sorry Matt).” – Matt lost.

With framed posters of some of their earlier moments of victory behind them, each Master sat in Alex Trebek’s chair and got a tick for each correct “clue”.

The clues related to stories told by the contestants when they first took part in the competitions – one read: “Which champion has a tattoo that reads, ‘How did I get here?’

The clue referred to Mattea’s two leg tattoos from the Talking Heads lyrics – Sam Buttrey hilariously surmised that “James Holzhauer” had the leg ink.

Another read: “Which master sang ‘Get your cat butt out of my face?'”

The notice was in reference to Sam Buttrey’s SoundCloud side hustle as the 2021 Professors Tournament winner also writes comedy songs.

Andrew He correctly guessed it as “Sam Buttrey” and said he had listened to that particular song “500 times.”

In the end, Andrew won with the most knowledge of his opponents, while Matt and James only got 2 clues right.

“YOU HAVE NOT THE FORM OF A QUESTION!”

While fans loved watching the masters quiz each other in the hilarious one-off video, several users stopped the trivia show for not following their own cherished format.

Danger! Classically consists of answers in the form of questions, where the clues are the answers and the participants have to answer with the question “Who is” or “What is”.

Instead, the special quiz was the opposite – questions were the questions, and the intended answers (no qualifier required) were simply the answers – too bad!

One YouTube user wrote: “It’s not even in Jeopardy format. You give them the questions!”

Another wrote: “Am I missing out by being like this? [the clues] appear on the screen and not be spoken aloud? I’m really confused.”

“What the hell is going on in this video? They were all disqualified for not answering in the form of a question!” wrote a third.

BATTLE ROYALE

Danger! Masters is the brainchild of new executive producer Michael Davies.

The Throwdown is designed to determine the best player in a given year and is held annually, one belt higher than the Tournament of Champions (which only includes competitors from the previous season).

Fans are all excited for the touchstone tournament, even if it frustratingly includes five contestants from the last Tournament of Champions – and James.

The special is also reportedly still filming due to some unexpected setbacks, although it will premiere soon.

The current schedule of The Futon Critic is as follows:

  • Week 1: May 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th
  • Week 2: May 15-17
  • Week 3: May 22-24 (the special will crown its champion in the finals on May 24)
