Danger! Fans are discovering a “weakness” in Troy Meyer’s gameplay that leaves the reigning champion on thin ice ahead of his sixth straight win

The latest JEOPARDY! big winner, Troy Meyer, won his sixth game on Thursday for a total of $214.8K – as hardcore fans worry about one small detail.
Troy doesn’t look for the all-important “daily doubles” and that gets him on the ropes.

The returning champion was joined by John Guszkowski, a planning consultant from Pomfret, Connecticut, and Emma Moore, a librarian from Princeton, New Jersey.
Troy is a music manager from Tampa, Florida who Jeopardy! the fans’ attention while he just keeps winning.
Troy had a large lead until rival John found one of the three randomly placed Daily Doubles.
There are three hidden special clues in each game, and landing on one allows a contestant to wager as much as they want from their bankroll and respond to it alone.

John bet $8000, got it, and it put him into the game well.
In Final Jeopardy, Troy – who had just found a daily double early on – was up $24,400.
John was right behind with $22,200 – and Emma was right behind with $2,800.
Final Jeopardy under History reads: “Returning home in 1493, Columbus stopped in the Azores at an island of that name, also something he had lost off the coast of Haiti.”

John was right, and when he revealed he had wagered $11,000, he had a big head start, at least for now.
“HE WROTE TOO LATE…”
A nervous Ken Jennings, 48, admitted when it was Troy’s turn to show his hand: “Troy Meyer gives us his best poker face.”
“Did he know it was ‘Santa Maria’ – he wrote late… he did!”
Troy got it and flashed a huge winning smile.
He knew it was time to bet big too, and luckily added a massive $20,001 when Ken exclaimed, “Wow!”
Troy won the Nailbiter for $44,401 and a whopping total over six days.
“I thought he didn’t have it!”
Fans love the champ’s impressive knowledge base – he got 94% of the clues right – but are hoping he’ll “daily double” his strategy.
According to Jeopardy.com, Troy has only found eight daily doubles in his six games – despite going 8/0, he’s averaging just over one per game.
While that makes for climax finals, it’s a stressful stat when everyone’s out for blood.
One fan wrote below a YouTube clip: “Come on Troy! I thought he didn’t.”
“I have to give it to him. He knows his stuff,” wrote a second.
A third feared on Reddit: “Troy is an excellent player but his daily double luck hasn’t always been the best.”
“Challengers are now abandoning traditional gameplay and doing daily double chases, making Troy seem weaker.”
Nonetheless, Troy is now the fifth candidate to qualify for next year’s Tournament of Champions.
The others are fan favorite Ray Lalonde with 13 wins, former poker ace Cris Pannullo with 21 wins, five-day champion Luigi de Guzman, and four-day champion and priest David Sibley.
Troy’s fifth win last night netted him $1 more than Amy’s total at the same time in 2022, so that’s nothing if not a good sign.
WHO IS: TROY MEYER?
Troy arrived last Thursday and his emotional victories have him looking up close to tears for the sweetest reason.
As Ken previously revealed, Troy’s mother passed away last year and they “shared a great love,” Jeopardy! together.
Troy also revealed on stage that his wife Genevieve was a contestant in 2009 – they met anonymously online while she was practicing for the competition.
Troy told The New York Times in her 2010 wedding announcement, “I was talking to friends and they thought I was absolutely crazy.”
They kept in touch while she prepared, but Troy didn’t know what she looked like until her episode aired.
Troy previously told the New York Times: “I thought she was 55 years old.”
They finally met in person after she entered a competition: “Within the first 24 hours we just wanted to be together.” They now share a son, 10.
Troy – who some fans have said looks like Bill Hader – may be new to Jeopardy! but he is no stranger to the world of trifles.
He’s a four-time champion in the invitation-only niche Learned League, a trivia club with over 25,000 members and Jeopardy!-like questions.
It’s no easy feat to “win the scarf” four times, the prize bestowed on the champion of the secret league.
Many dangers! Champs are or were secretly members, including host Ken, per The New Yorker — he’s had to resign for obvious reasons.
Troy also humbly revealed that in a post-credits scene, he was part of “the best technical trivia team in the world last year.”
He teamed up with The Chase’s Brandon Blackwell and Victoria Groce to win the global Online Quiz League competition.
Brandon and another fellow chaser were in the audience at his games and he definitely makes them proud.
WHERE IS: MAYIM?
Co-host Mayim Bialik, 47, is expected to return to the game show in late February.
With her Call Me Kat schedule running longer than expected, Mayim will start her hosting duties with a new teen tournament.
Fans will get more from Ken as he releases the new Jeopardy! Masters spinoff set to air in prime time in the spring.

The Six Champions Special has invited Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, Sam Buttrey, Andrew He, Mattea Roach and James Holzhauer to participate as contestants.
The 20-game, 10-episode special pits all players against each other in a round-robin with no elimination.
