Cyberpunk 2077 mission director says lack of car chase is normal, Cites Elden Ring and Sonic

Cyberpunk 2077Mission director Paweł Sasko explained the game’s lack of car chases or police pursuits, saying that the team wanted to do that, but couldn’t manage due to technical limitations. He also mentioned Elden Ring and Sonic as an example of open world titles that don’t have car chases. Maybe they’ll have horseback chases, huh?

Sasko hosted a recent six-hour Cyberpunk 2077 live stream in which he addressed some of the challenges in the development of the project. Someone asked the mission director: “Why aren’t there more car chases when every other open world game has these mechanics?” Sasko points out that the whole phrase “every open-world game has car chases” is incorrect.

“First of all, not every open world game [has this]. I don’t think the Sonic game will have it or the open-world game Elden Ring will have it,” Sasko explained. Sasko’s answer ends on Reddit, where it was taken out of context, leading many to suggest that the mission director compared Cyberpunk 2077 to the Elden Ring. The thing is, he never actually did – he just pointed out the whole question’s formula is incorrect and that the lack of chases in an open world game is a common occurrence. Previously, senior film designer Paweł Ochocki revealed about the studio never planned to expand the mission with Jackie Welles in the Night City is “no real tension in it.” In his words, it’s only “once you start dying and the cyber-terrorist from the past is in your head – that’s when the tension arises.”
