CVS closes another location this year and customers met with instructions on where to get their prescriptions

Major pharmacy chain CVS has closed another location as part of a shift in its retail strategy.
This time, a New Jersey town will have one less pharmacy to fill its prescriptions.

The store closed on October 5, 2023 and most of its services were moved to another branch in Fair Lawn, New Jersey.
The Fair Lawn location is less than a mile from the closed site.
Before the store closed permanently, a sign warned customers of the change.
“Our store is closing, but we are still close,” the sign read, directing customers to the Fair Lawn branch.
OTHER OPTIONS
There are numerous CVS locations to choose from in the densely populated suburban area.
Saddle Brook, New Jersey is surrounded by CVS stores.
There is another CVS branch about two miles away in Elmwood Park.
Two miles away in a different direction there is a CVS in Rochelle Park.
The phone numbers for the pharmacy and supermarket were automatically forwarded to the Fair Lawn location.
CLOSURE PUZZLE
The closure by CVS comes after CVS announced a change to its retail strategy in 2021, focused on maintaining its geographic footprint while closing approximately 300 stores per year through 2024.
The pharmacy chain said it is considering maintaining access through other locations when deciding which stores to close.
That means areas like New Jersey with lots of stores could be the first to have their locations considered for the chopping block.
A spokesperson previously told the US Sun:
“We consider many factors when making decisions about store closures, including maintaining access to pharmacy services, local market dynamics, population shifts, a community’s store density and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community to do justice.”
It’s unclear why the Saddle Brook location will close.
Elsewhere, CVS has closed more stores, including one in Albany, New York.
Another CVS location in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, closed on September 28.
The wave of closures is expected to last until 2024.
To learn more about store closures, Walgreens shared its plans to close 150 stores.
Rite Aid has closed many stores as it faces possible bankruptcy.
