Cristiano Ronaldo texts Piers Morgan from the dressing room to let him know he scored in Portugal’s win over Uruguay

CRISTIANO RONALDO immediately texted Piers Morgan from the dressing room to insist he had scored Portugal’s opener last night.
The 37-year-old drove away jubilantly after Bruno Fernandes’ curling cross landed in the net in the World Cup match against Uruguay.

At first it looked like Ronaldo caught the ball a little before it flew into the Uruguayan goal.
However, replays suggested the former Manchester United striker might have missed it and the goal was credited to Fernandes.
But Ronaldo insists the blow should be his and even texted his pal Morgan right after the game.
The journalist confirmed he had been contacted by the star in a light-hearted Twitter exchange with Specsavers after the game.
Morgan tweeted: “Ronaldo confirmed to me that his head touched the ball. Even Bruno agrees.”
The debate over the strike continues, with some fans convinced it should be Ronaldo’s.
Even Bruno Fernandes was happy to let his compatriot score, which would have given him 119 caps.
Fernandes said: “I don’t really think it matters who scored. At the time, I felt like he (Ronaldo) was touching the ball – I crossed it to him – but what mattered was that we went into the next round and beat a very big opponent.”

Fernandes later struck from the penalty spot to seal the win and ensure Portugal secured a place in the knockout rounds.
They are the third side to secure a place after France and Brazil and the result leaves Uruguay in need of a strong result against old opponents Ghana.
Ronaldo’s text message to Morgan comes just weeks after the two teamed up for one of football’s most explosive interviews in recent years.
The Portuguese legend hit out at Man United and his manager, resulting in the club mutually agreeing to tear up his contract.
