DAVID BECKHAMS Inter Miami are planning a sensational January window jump for Cristiano Ronaldo.
America’s MLS side are planning a re-bid to sign the Manchester United superstar after failing last summer.
But Old Trafford legend and former team-mate Wayne Rooney claims the five-time Ballon D’Or winner – now 37 – is past his prime.
Rooney – now boss of MLS team DC United – stressed: “Cristiano and Lionel Messi are two of the greatest players to ever play this game.
“But eventually time catches up with all of us. Difficult for Cristiano. He’s obviously not the player he was when he was 22 or 23.”
Old Trafford insiders claim Ronaldo would seriously consider a move to America after spending much of the season on the bench under new boss Erik ten Hag.
And Rooney added: “Knowing him, it’s going to be very difficult for him to sit on the bench.”
Inter, the ex-United star at the club Beckham co-founded in 2018, has explored the possibility and prepared to offer the Portuguese legend a £30m package.
United repelled an attempt to sign him for free in the last transfer window, insisting they wanted a fee.
Inter, who reached the MLS play-offs last week, believe Ronaldo could now be available for free after Ten Hag made it clear he is not a big part of his plans.

Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain is their current regular, but he is retiring at the end of the season – and signing one of football’s greatest-ever footballers would be seen as a major coup.
Ronaldo, who wore Beckham’s number 7 shirt when he first joined United, still has dreams of playing in Europe – and the Champions League – and PSG would consider a move if Messi is in the summer returns to Barcelona.
But waiting for a move to France that might never materialize would be a huge gamble for the Portuguese striker… and Inter are looking to seal a deal first.
He could remain at Old Trafford for the remainder of the English season, although United are more likely to let him go in January – if conditions are acceptable.
Sources at the training ground believe Ronaldo could now use the World Cup in Qatar as his high-profile swan song.
Ronaldo has made just one league start under ten Hag – the 4-0 streak at Brentford – and five more off the bench.
He has featured in all three Europa League games and his only goal this season came in September’s win over Moldova’s Sheriff Tiraspol.
Insiders insist his level of training and attitude are still impressive, but also say he’s dejected over his situation.
