Craig Melvin leaving MSNBC?

MSNBC host Craig Melvin announced on March 16, 2022, he will be returning to the station’s daily hour-long programming.

Melvin’s absence will come amid other changes to the station’s lineup including Stephanie Ruhle who is switching to the night news and will take Brian Williams‘place after his departure.

Who is Craig Melvin?

Craig Melvin42, is News anchor for MSNBC and Today. During his time with the station, he reported on Republican Party and Democracy national conventions, Election night coverageAsiana Airlines 214 crash in 2013, George Zimmerman test, Sandy Hook shooting rangeand more.

But before MSNBC, Melvin was from Columbia, South Carolina where he grew up with his parents and two siblings.

He attended Wofford College in Spartanburg, about two hours from his hometown.

Melvin received his Bachelor’s degree at government in 2001 and shortly after graduating from college, he received a position as a broadcaster at WIS News10, NBC.

Things to know about Today show anchor Craig Melvin

He moved to Washington, DC to join the NBC show WRC-TV in 2008 and then took on the role for Today in 2011.

He currently lives in Connecticut with his wife and son.

Why did Craig Melvin leave MSNBC?

A spokesperson for MSNBC told LA time that Craig Melvin will be leaving the 11 a.m. show on the radio starting April 1, 2022.

According to the spokesman, Melvin will shift focus to Today, where he hopes to expand his role as the show’s news anchor.

When Melvin leaves the show, MSNBC will rotate a lineup of anchors until the station can find a permanent replacement.

Craig Melvin has been a news anchor for MSNBC and Today since 2016 and attends and covers 2022 Beijing Olympics. He also co-hosts today’s Tuesday Hour segment.

MSNBC and Melvin did not respond to The Sun’s request for comment in time for this article.

Is Craig Melvin an award-winning reporter?

Craig Melvin’s journalism career began in high school as our Generation reporter for WIS.

Melvin saw a WIS-TV ad in 1995 asking teenagers to sign up for coverage. “I remember thinking, ‘That’s great,’” Melvin told Columbia Metropolitan.

He went to the local mall where he got the job. “I wouldn’t be where I am without that,” he said.

Randy Covington was news director at WIS when Craig took the position for Our Generation.

“I remember the first time I watched one of his stories, I thought, ‘Oh, he’s a natural,'” Covington said.

“We have other kids, smart kids, working in Our Generation. Craig is in a different class.”

The position allowed Melvin to hone his skills, and he became the youngest person to receive an Associated Press award for a report on innovative teaching in the program.

As his career progressed, Melvin won two Emmy Award for his reporting at WIS and was also named Best Anchor by the Association of Broadcasters of South Carolina.

Talking about his career development, Melvin said, “It was tough, and it was tough for a number of years. I believe that’s why so many people leave the business. But I love it.

“I’ve always loved telling stories, and I’ve always loved talking to people, but I especially love being covered in the news in my hometown, because there’s nothing like it.”
