Corrie boss Iain MacLeod reveals that the ITV soap won’t go down a ‘dark’ path this year, and promises ‘festival’ scenes in the regular TV series
Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod has promised a “merry” and “festive” Christmas Day episode this year, after recent dark scenes surrounding the carnival period.
In 2019, a fearsome siege left many dead on the line and several killed, while last year Adam Barlow’s attacker is still big when he woke up from his coma.
During this time, the residents will appear in “heartwarming” scenes between the movie was teased.
Speaking to The Mirror and other press at a Christmas event, Iain revealed this year’s festive timing will be more “traditional” Corrie style, with some hilarious moments to come.
Iain told us: “It’s actually quite fun. Obviously there’s a tradition of some soaps having to go big and dark and gothic at Christmas. We’ve dipped in from time to time. toe into that water. It’s fair to say this year is more like a tradition Opening the street Christmas.
“It’s funny in a lot of places. It’s very silly, and it’s really heartwarming and fun.
“There was a really strong community vibe this year, where we were really able to film when we had the opportunity, to do some of the things the actors didn’t always have to be apart. two meters.
“So that Corrie community has as much of a feel as some of our previous Christmas episodes have had.”
He continued: “It’s hilarious, very community-focused, very family-focused. It has one of the silliest fights I’ve seen in anything ever, In regards to the immortal line, ‘smells of my marigolds’ which I will leave you to figure out what that might be referring to.
“It was a great hour of TV, I have to say I watched it when I wasn’t feeling very happy, and I ended up having a hashish-shaped lump in my throat.
“It was really moving, tears of joy rather than pain. It’s just a glorious thing, I really hope the audience enjoys it as much as I did.”
ITV has previously teased major spoilers ahead of Christmas, where it doesn’t seem too “fun” to a number of characters including Emma Brooker, Abi Franklin and Kelly Neelan.
While these spoilers are for the carnival period in general, there’s a slight twist to the regular drama as the others struggle to cope.
ITV confirmed: “A Christmas wedding gets everyone excited, but as Emma prepares to marry the man of her dreams, she discovers Curtis isn’t all he seems.
“Her heart is on a big white wedding, can Emma forgive the unforgivable or will Curtis go? Opening the street without saying: ‘I do?’
“Still struggling to come to terms with the murder of her son Seb, Abi turns all of her hatred onto Kelly. As she vows to kick her off the streets, Kelly begins to fall.
“Kevin is determined to pull his new wife back to the brink. With a little help from beyond the grave, can Kevin and Jack help Abi find a way through her grief?”
“Meanwhile, Nina is also overwhelmed with grief over Seb’s death. In Roy’s absence, Asha is by her side, and their relationship begins to blossom again.
“But as she struggled to cope with her growing anxiety levels, Carla stepped in and gave Nina the gift she desperately needed.
“It looks like this Christmas will be very lonely for Tyrone as Fiz makes plans with Phill and the girls.
“But out of pity for her ex, despite his affair, Fiz invited Tyrone to spend Christmas with them.

“At Rovers, Jenny is thinking about celebrating a difficult time after losing Johnny. But as the community rallies around her, will the Christmas spirit prevail?
“Daisy certainly hopes so because she ended up doing a play for Daniel, while Nick hopes he can coax his son Sam to open up after Natasha’s death and George plans a very presentable gift. especially for Eileen.”
