Coronavirus-related staff shortages drive 20 Pittsburgh Online Public Schools – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Coronavirus continues to affect schools in Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Public Schools system announced that 20 schools this week will transition to online learning due to staff shortages related to COVID-19. Eight schools are closed on Tuesdays, six are closed on Wednesdays, and another 14 are closed for the rest of the week.
On Sunday, District relocates 12 schools to study online on Monday due to COVID-19.

Classroom instruction will resume January 10 for all schools that were closed this week.
“The PFT has requested a meeting with the District and they are setting it up,” said Nina Esposito-Visgitis, president of the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers. “We haven’t met them yet, so I’m not saying I know their protocols, but we’re going to see them because we want the details of how they figured it out.”
KDKA’s Jennifer Borrasso spoke with a parent whose son attended the Pittsburgh Montessori PreK-5. He said he was frustrated with the last-minute nature of the decisions.
“It was very frustrating,” said parent Steve Winslow. “Ultimately, we all understand that there are problems going on with COVID. That is a difficult thing for many parents. … One day they close, one day they open and you don’t know what will happen. ”
