BAY SHORE, NY (CBSNewYork) – ONE Long Island A man is accused of a shocking series of sex crimes against women, some of whom may not have known he had become a victim.
Three victims have been identified and there may be more, CBS2’s Carolyn Gusoff reported Tuesday.
“This is one of the most shocking cases I’ve ever seen” Suffolk County Sheriff Acting Commissioner Stuart Cameron said.
Shocking at its conduct and scope, police said when they announced charges against the 43-year-old Guaman, a Bay Shore construction workers. He is accused of posing as a carpool driver to pick up women and then commit sex crimes without their knowledge.
“Police recovered video from the defendant’s cell phone, which showed him sexually abusing several unconscious women,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini speak.
Sini said it was not clear if he drugged the victims.
He said the case was broken after Guaman allegedly broke in Bright water in mid-November and videotaped his sexual abuse of a sleeping young woman.
“It was later revealed that he had visited the same home four other times and had secretly filmed another victim’s video in the home,” Sini said.
A few days later, Guaman was stopped at the Bay Shore for running a stop sign, and police discovered he was using multiple IDs.
A search of his phone showed videos of women, what prosecutors called “a pattern of unpunished predatory behaviour”, adding that he would “take their degrees and then that sexually assaulted them.”
At his home, police say they found 32 cell phones and 16 driver’s licenses, including one belonging to an unconscious victim in 2019 that was stuck in Oak Beach and “didn’t work.” know what happened.”
Police are now matching pornographic videos with victims who may not have known they were assaulted and are asking those who recognize the suspect to come forward.
“It seems like there’s a serial aspect to this case where he could have been doing this consistently over the years with multiple victims,” Cameron said.
Keith Scott of the LI Safety Center says anyone using a carpooling app must use safety measures.
“We are checking these cabs, these cabs before we get in, looking at the license plates, checking the make and model of the car, making sure the driver is on our app,” said Scott. was the right driver in front of us,” Scott said.
Guaman, a father and immigrant from Ecuador, pledges not to commit any crime.
Prosecutors say he is in the country illegally and faces deportation. He now faces 25 years in prison if convicted.
One victim’s father was in court and cursed Guaman as he was handcuffed.
If you believe you are a victim, you are asked to call Suffolk Police Department 3rd Division detectives at 631-854-8352.
