Conor McGregor tapped to earn a shock title shot by beating “very beatable” Tony Ferguson in the must-win UFC return

CONOR MCGREGOR is tipped to catapult himself back into the easy cover picture with an emphatic win over Tony Ferguson.
The Notorious is apparently on the verge of taking on his longtime rival in his much-anticipated comeback after a second stint as The Ultimate Fighter’s trainer.

And former middleweight champion Michael Bisping can see the Irishman skipping the queue for a title fight if he decisively defeats El Cucuy.
The Count said: “Like it or not, Conor is still the biggest star in sport.
“And with a win, you can bet he’ll be fighting for the title.
“Of course he is, and the reality is that if you own the organization and you have a guy like Conor who can attract millions of PPV buyers, you would probably do the same.
“I don’t agree with that, but that’s the way the world works.”
McGregor and Ferguson’s recent slips, two and five fights respectively, have caused them to drop out of the easy top 15.
But Bisping believes fan-favorite Ferguson is the perfect and “most beatable” opponent for McGregor to get back into the groove.

He said: “Conor McGregor vs Tony Ferguson – Tony is very hittable and Conor is very good at hitting.
“Tony didn’t win, I think he’s lost five in a row now, unfortunately for him.
“He got KO’ed by Michael Chandler, what a KO that was, absolutely beautiful.
“Tony is in a difficult position right now and Tony should probably retire.
“It’s a good comeback fight for Conor.

“Find their mojo, knock someone out, gain their confidence and possibly set up a title shot.”
Former two-division champion McGregor has not set foot in the octagon since breaking his leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
But Mystic Mac seems fit again after his arduous rehab and dramatic body transformation.


Ferguson last featured against Nate Diaz at UFC 279 last September.
The Ultimate Fighter season 13 winner suffered a fourth-round submission loss to the recently departed Diaz.
