August went missing from a hospital.

And in a heartfelt plea for his safe return, his parents told him he didn’t have to “go back” and could “stay home forever.”

They said: ‘August, you don’t have to go back – everyone agrees you can stay home forever.

“You’re not in trouble at all. We just want you to be home and safe.”

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Hobbs, who led the investigation, said the public should inform police immediately if they see the boy.

Mr Hobbs said: “August has been missing for more than 48 hours and we are really worried about him.

“He’s autistic and may run away if approached by a stranger. Therefore, we are asking anyone who thinks they have seen him to call the police immediately instead of approaching him.”
