Colorado State amends Coach Niko Medved’s deal after discovering they’ll make their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2013 – CBS Pittsburgh

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – Colorado State has modified basketball coach Niko Medved’s contract in a move that will keep him in charge of the Rams through the end of the 2028-29 season.
Medved’s new deal was announced this past Sunday as the Rams found out they were entering their first NCAA Tournament since 2013. The sixth-seeded Rams will face No. 11 Michigan on Thursday at Indianapolis.

The Rams have shown steady improvement since they went 12-20 in Medved’s first season in 2018-19. Colorado State is 25-5 this season and is led by Mountain West Player of the Year, David Roddy.
In addition to amending Medved’s agreement, the school added a paycheck for basketball staff, along with incentives. Medved will receive bonuses for things like winning 20 or more games against Division I opponents ($40,000), winning a regular-season title or league championship ($75,000), qualifying entered the NCAA Tournament ($100,000) and won the NCAA Tournament ($200,000).
“Niko has done an incredible job in building Colorado State’s men’s basketball culture,” CSU athletic director Joe Parker said in a statement. “He is a dedicated educator who helps young people develop through coaching and coaching in sports.

“His relentless pursuit of excellence aligns with our desire to be nationally recognized as a preeminent athletics program in many ways.”
Medved is a longtime assistant at the State of Colorado. He then spent four seasons as head coach at Furman and another at Drake before returning to Fort Collins.
“I’ve been fortunate to coach so many great people and work with so many great people,” says Medved. “We’re excited about the future!”
