With bids already reaching a whopping £6,000, the final price will no doubt be astounding.

The ‘extensively re-commissioned’ engine is ready for a new owner.

It features a fresh coat of paint and a 1200cc engine after being restored by the current owner.

Other features include original rear seats and reupholstered door panels, as well as a classic three-spoke Cortina steering wheel, working Motorola radio and “golf ball” shifter.

The Cortina has been given a new lease of life with soft blue carpets and chrome trim.

Its owner also fitted it with electric ignition, as well as a new radiator, axle and gearbox.

The dashboard has been given a unique touch in the form of a metallic Tottenham Hotspur crest.

Car auctioneers Car and Classic said, “If you grew up in the 1960s, this is probably a car that brings back fond memories.”

“Perhaps one of the greatest automobiles of all time, certainly here in the UK, the Ford Cortina has firmly secured its place in the automotive industry hall of fame and is certainly an example of Ford quality at its finest.”

“This 1965 MK1 Cortina is a charming, honest example of where it all began.”

“After an extensive recommissioning, it is there today, waiting for a new, loving home and will be ready for use from the first moment.”

The auction, which can be viewed here, ends in two days.

And it’s not the only vintage Ford currently for sale.

If you bid, you could also own a 1987 Ford Capri with iconic vintage touches.
