Islanders President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello said in a statement: “The entire Islanders community is devastated by the loss of Clark Gillies.

“He has made it clear what it means to be an Islander in New York. The pride he feels wearing an Islanders sweater on the ice is evident in his willingness to do anything. anything to win.

“Off the ice, he’s also a man of great reputation, always taking the time to give back to the local community. The New York Islander has four Stanley Cups for the sacrifices he and members of the bands have made. Dynasty team that has made for the franchise .

Gillies – a native of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada – was part of the Inhabitants of the island from 1974 to 75 to 1985 to 86.

He played 872 games, scored 304 goals and had 359 assists for 663 points.

The NHL Hall of Famer played in 159 playoff games for the Islanders, where he scored 47 goals and 46 assists for 93 points, Website of the people on the island explain.

Gillies was part of the Islanders’ group of 17 players that won four consecutive Stanley Cup titles between 1980 and 1983.

Hockey legend, who was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 2002, founded a nonprofit company called Clark Gillies Foundation.

The foundation is described as a “non-profit company developed to help children with physical, emotional or financial difficulties.”
