CITY leaders have branded a rail operator’s decision to cut its Northwest schedule as a “national outrage” that must be reversed.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham called Avanti West Coast’s move “completely unacceptable”.
The Sun said yesterday that from Sunday, AWC will run just four trains an hour instead of seven on the West Coast Main Line – with just one from London Euston to Manchester.
The company blames a lack of staff and suspends ticket sales.
Mr Khan, Mr Burnham and Manchester City Council leader Bev Craig have written to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.
It said, “This is totally unacceptable.”
They want him to give Avanti a deadline to fix the problem — or get the company out of their contract.
The letter added: “Drivers have every right not to work on their rest days.
“It also seeks to shift the blame away from Avanti management for their failure to take appropriate remedial action for a fully foreseeable situation.”
