Kristen Vartanian took to TikTok to share a video tutorial on how she makes the jewelry, starting with a pack of Sharpies and a whole bunch of white plastic cups.

She uses the pen to color in the cup however she wants – with rainbow colors being the most popular choice.

Once the cups are clear, she places them on a baking tray lined with foil and places them in the preheated oven, on grill mode – the grill setting will also work.

In just 20 seconds, the cups have melted into plastic plates, which work wonderfully as Christmas decorations as they cool.

Viewers took to the comments section to praise Kristen for the hack, with one person writing: “This is genius, how did it not go viral!?”

“My teacher helped us make these in second grade and that’s the core memory. I’m still hanging from the tree 16 years later,” another commented.

Another person planning to craft with their young relatives, wrote: “I’m running to the phone to call my son to bring the older kids over. Handmade now.”

Others were quick to mention Shrinky Dinks, or Shrinkles – the much-loved 1980s trend of staining in polystyrene flakes that were then fed into the oven to be miniaturized.

But some were concerned about the smoke the cups would give off while in the oven, to which Kristen replied: “No, it doesn’t smell like burning plastic because it’s not burning, it’s melting.

Then she placed the cups on a baking tray lined with foil and put them in the oven for 15-20 seconds
