Chicago police sergeant charged after allegedly taking pictures at carjackers in Evergreen Park

CHICAGO — An off-duty Chicago police sergeant faces a felony cost after allegedly opening hearth in the direction of a bunch of carjackers Saturday night time in Evergreen Park. 

Oneta Sampson-Carney, 58, faces a reckless discharge of a firearm cost. She is being held on $5,000 bond.

The 19-year veteran and her husband have been loading groceries in a Sam’s Membership car parking zone on S. Western when three males approached. The trio allegedly requested Sampson-Carney if she wanted assist along with her groceries. When she declined, police stated one of many carjackers entered the automobile, working with the keys inside and drove off.

“The officer gave chase to the automobile on foot and fired one spherical from her firearm on the fleeing automobile,” Evergreen Park police stated in an announcement.

Based on police, the group of carjackers crashed Sampson-Carney’s SUV throughout a police chase within the Loop. 

Police finally arrested six folks, 5 of which have been juveniles. Authorities charged 4 of the 5 youths with legal trespass to a automobile. One male juvenile was charged with possessing a stolen motorized vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and disobeying a crimson gentle.

Police stated the bullet didn’t strike the automobile and added that nobody was damage.
