CHELSEA midfielder Billy Gilmour has signed a contract extension to keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2024.
The 21-year-old Scotland international spent last season on loan at Norwich in the Premier League.
However, he struggled to make a positive impact on the team as the Canary Islands were relegated back to the championship right away.
Despite his disappointing time at Norwich, Chelsea have decided to give Gilmour an extension to his existing contract.
Chelsea confirmed the news via their official website on Monday, two days after his 21st birthday.
Before going on loan, he played 22 games for the Blues over two seasons.
And Chelsea supporters have been ecstatic at the prospect of the young midfielder becoming a regular in their side.
But in the center of the park at Stamford Bridge, competition was rampant.
Thomas Tuchel had Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to choose from.
As a result, it promises to be a difficult task for Gilmour to squeeze his way onto the team.

He could be helped by the departure of Jorginho, who has been linked with a move to Juventus.
Gilmour has also gained international experience in the last 12 months after debuting in June last year.
He started his 13th cap in Scotland’s heartbreaking World Cup play-off defeat by Ukraine earlier this month.
