Drinking water leaves after five barren years
Danny Drinkwater has left Chelsea for good, describing his time with the club as “a business move gone wrong”.
The midfielder has made just 23 appearances for the Blues since joining in 2017, his last competitive game in the 2018 Community Shield.
And in a farewell to his Instagram account, Drinkwater, 32, described his turbulent time in west London.
He wrote: “My time at Chelsea has come to an end… it feels really strange writing this.
“Me, the club and the fans are very disappointed with the result, there is no doubt about that.
“Injuries, how I was treated, mistakes I made, problems with the pitch, lack of playing time… the list of excuses could be endless but I wouldn’t and can’t change what happened.
“Football is a fantastic sport but it was a business move for both sides that went wrong, it’s that black and white.
“I apologize to the Chelsea fans for how this has turned out. I would have loved it if you would have me doing what I love at my best in this jersey. All the best.”
