Chelsea must not slow down efforts to tie up Rudiger and Christensen just because Silva has signed a new contract, Johnson warns

FORM Chelsea player Glen Johnson is pleased Thiago Silva has signed a new contract but he has urged the Blues to tie up other stars.
Several players’ contracts are due to expire at the end of the season, including defenders Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta.
And even though Chelsea have extended Thiago Silva’s stay for another year Earlier this month, there was a lot of work to do.
Johnson said Bettingodds.com: “I don’t think Thiago Silva’s stay reduces the pressure on Rüdiger – I think Chelsea still need to sign Rüdiger.
“Silva has only signed for another year and he can’t play every week.
“They’ve done a great job keeping him but I think Chelsea also need to make sure that Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rüdiger are also kept long-term.
“Silva has been fantastic since he came to Chelsea. Helping all the young players, he has a lot of experience and he still enjoys his football.
“It’s great that he’s signed for another year.”

The contract extension of the duo is proving difficult for Chelsea.
Rudiger has been in good form this season and has attracted the attention of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
But the German is ready to extend his contract with the Blues as long as he receives his desired £200k/week salary.
And Chelsea are preparing new negotiations with the defender after he turned down an earlier offer.
Christensen, however, seems like he might be heading for an exit like Borussia Dortmund have made Dane their top transfer target.
