Chelsea have suffered a major blow to their summer transfer plans after Christopher Nkunku agreed a contract extension with RB Leipzig.

24-year-old Nkunku was one of the most effective attackers in European football last season, scoring 35 goals and 19 assists in 50 appearances.

That strong form has linked him with an £80million move to some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Man United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain all reportedly interested in a transfer.

However, those plans now appear to be going down the drain after RB Leipzig announced a two-year contract extension until 2026.

In the statement on the club’s website, Nkunku said: “I’m happy to continue wearing the RB Leipzig shirt.

“After our great win of the DFB Cup, I knew that my story didn’t end here. I was really impressed with the club’s efforts to keep me.

“RB Leipzig has made a name for itself internationally in recent years and has repeatedly shown that we can compete for titles.

“We want to build on that and go one step further.”
