Chelsea flop Romelu Lukaku desperate to return to Inter Milan, club boss confirms after failed loan offer

INTER MILAN boss Alessandro Antonello has revealed that Romelu Lukaku has a ‘great desire’ to return to the club.

Lukaku left Inter last summer to return to Chelsea for a club-record fee after helping them win the Scudetto.

The 29-year-old Belgian scored 24 goals in Inter’s title-winning campaign and formed an impressive partnership with Lautaro Martinez.

However, Lukaku struggled to adjust back to life in London and saw his form slip on the pitch.

What’s more, the striker didn’t help himself as he ended up in hot water with Chelsea and their fans for an unauthorized interview.

Speaking to Italian TV, Lukaku said he was unhappy with his situation at Stamford Bridge and also vowed to return to Inter.

And his move back to the San Siro could come sooner rather than later with Inter in talks to bring him back to Italy on loan.

The Belgian is willing to take a 50% pay cut to push through a move.

However, Inter would have to be prepared to pay a sizeable rental fee.

Inter boss Antonello says there is “a great desire on the part of Lukaku to return” but the club are also keen to comply with Uefa’s financial fair play rules.

Antonello said: “He and Dybala together? It is important for us to combine competitiveness on the pitch and economic-financial sustainability.

“We do and every choice the club makes in the transfer market will always be inspired by those two words. We want to respect Uefa’s financial fair play.

“Lukaku has a great desire to return.

“What needs to be checked is the economic and financial feasibility and the solution of some technical problems.

“However, it is better to talk to Dr. Marotta about it.”
