Chelsea flop Gonzalo Higuain AXED out of Inter Miami squad after falling out of favor under Phil Neville

GONZALO HIGUAIN has fallen out of favor again at Inter Miami after being dropped from the squad for this weekend’s trip to Seattle.

The former Real Madrid and Napoli player, who could end his career at the end of the season if his contract expires, says he has been struggling with knee problems that have kept him away from the side who drew 3-2 last Saturday New England won .

But club sources have told SunSport the Argentine legend has cut a frustrated figure this season and is unhappy with life in Miami under boss Phil Neville.

His mood seemed to sour over the weekend after loanee Wolves striker Leonardo Campana, the man brought into the team in his place, scored a hat-trick.

TV cameras immediately swung to the 34-year-old after Campana’s second goal, but instead of celebrating the Ecuadorian’s decisive goal, Higuain’s split second showed him sitting in the stands, his expression depressed.

Boss Neville is a big fan of Campana, 21, and said: “He played a lot more freely without Gonzalo in the team because he was the man, sometimes centre-forwards have to be the person everyone is looking at and relying on, when it comes to goals.

“What we saw on Saturday was someone ready to take on the mantle of leading man, the main number 9 on the team. With four goals already this season, he’s someone who will be really exciting.”

The situation at Higuain is a problem for Neville, who needs all the help he can get after a difficult start to the season.

MLS rules mean it’s impossible to sack him mid-season but lack of quality in the roster will mean he will have to do his bit as David Beckham’s side seek a playoff spot.

Higuain’s inability to play with his top earner Rodolfo Pizarro was a headache for Neville last season and although the Mexico international has now been sacked the problems remain.

Neville added: “What we saw on Saturday was 11 players plus the three substitutes all going in the same direction, working hard, staying together and sticking to the game plan.

“And that will be the order of the day from now until the end of the season. We have now found a formula that is non-negotiable.”

Miami travel to Seattle this weekend with just one win and one draw from their first six games.
