The Sun revealed earlier this week that QPR was in pole position to demand the free agent’s signature after leaving Chelsea.

He is now the first signing of new manager Michael Beale, the former Aston Villa assistant who replaced Mark Warburton.

Clarke-Salter was a highly rated product of Chelsea academy and is now hoping to restart his career after failing to get through at Cobham.

He has also previously worked with Beale in the development of the defender.

He told QPR’s website: “I’m over the moon, it’s a permanent deal and it’s time for me to settle down and move forward in my career.

“It’s totally different than going on loan because this is my home and I’m totally focused on doing great things with this club.

“It’s a big step for me and one I’m absolutely ready for.”

Clarke-Salter’s years on loan included stints at Bristol Rovers, Sunderland, Vitesse, Birmingham and Coventry.

During his time at the Ricoh Arena he made 31 appearances including Coventry, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers who were believed to be interested in signing him permanently.

This is unlikely to be the last time QPR make a summer move as the club have to replace big names like outgoing striker Charlie Austin, who is among those who have left on a free transfer.
