CHELSEA are considering calling Callum Hudson-Odoi off his loan.

The 21-year-old moved to Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season.

Summer signings of Raheem Sterling, Carney Chukwuemeka and Marc Cucurella hampered his chances of playing time at left flank.

And he was allowed to leave for the Bundesliga.

But it seems new owner Todd Boehly and recently appointed gaffer Graham Potter agree the Englishman should be back at Stamford Bridge.

According to German news agency BILD, one of Potter’s first actions in the January window could be to recall Hudson-Odoi.

The London-born winger has a recall clause in his loan deal that could trigger Chelsea.

The striker recently revealed he had spoken to Boehly about being part of his west London plans.

He said: “When a club tries to loan a player, they always want that option to be bought at the end of the season.

“Todd said, ‘Look, we want you back here.’

“You are still on the radar of being wanted by the club. The way he’s trying to set it up, there are plenty of young players he’s looking to buy for the next few years.

“It shows that he wants to integrate the players into the team and help them develop.”

Hudson-Odoi has become a regular at Leverkusen under Gerardo Seoane and has one assist in five games so far.

Speaking to The Mail about his Chelsea exit, he said: “It was one of those difficult moments where you look at yourself and say, ‘What am I doing wrong? Did I do something wrong to not even be in the squad?’

“I would never say anything bad about Thomas, he was a good guy, a good manager. But the first game of the season was frustrating. Any footballer not in the squad would understand how frustrating that is.

“You don’t want to sit on the bench and think, ‘Why don’t I play?’, then it becomes weeks and weeks and your legs are rusty when you play. The most important thing is consistent football. That’s what I’ come here for and feel better.”
