Chelsea reached out to Leeds United about Brazilian star Raphinha and quickly agreed to up the full £55million asking price.

The Blues are also set to offer £50m this week for Sterling, 27, who is keen to move to London.

Man City have told Sterling they will consider an offer for him as they know they face a losing battle to keep the star although they want him to stay.

Chelsea quickly made the move to join Raphinha with a host of clubs linked with the wanton star.

Arsenal have been chasing the underdog winger for some time but Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was determined not to lose to his London rivals.

Barcelona, Tottenham and Newcastle have also been linked.

Raphina, 25, told Elland Road chiefs that he wants to leave and would prefer to join Barca.

But the Spanish giants are struggling financially, paving the way for a move for Chelsea – with the deal expected to be announced in the next 48 hours.

Chelsea are determined to get active in the transfer market following American Boehly’s £4.25billion takeover of the club.

So far this summer they have only dropped players, with defenders Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen leaving on free transfers.

Raphinha is yet to agree personal terms with Chelsea before any move.

The 25-year-old Leeds star scored 11 Premier League goals and added three assists last season.

He scored in a 3-2 away defeat at Stamford Bridge in December.

Meanwhile City are still hoping Sterling will accept a new contract but they will try to accept an offer provided the price is right.

The England international has 12 months left on his current contract but is worried about the playing time he will get at Etihad next season.

He could go as a free agent next year but wants to play as much as possible ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly wants to make an immediate impact after taking over the club and signing Sterling would be a massive coup.

The England winger scored 17 goals and added nine assists in all competitions for Prem Champions City last season.
