Chelsea and Tottenham in transfer shock as Lautaro Martinez reveals he wants to stay at Inter Milan next season

Martinez had been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, where blues-flop Romelu Lukaku made a surprise return to Inter.

The forward scored 40 goals in 97 games under Spurs boss Antonio Conte during his time together in Italy.

Martinez scored the opening goal at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday as Argentina defeated Euro 2020 winners Italy 3-0 in the first Finalissima.

Asked about his future afterwards – Martinez insisted he hasn’t been in touch with any other club so far this summer and intends to stay at the San Siro.

He said: “My plan is clear: I really want to stay at Inter next season.

“To date I have had no communication from the club, I want to continue at Inter next season.”

Spurs have already signed Martinez’s Inter team-mate Ivan Perisic after he left the Serie A club as a free agent.

The Italian market has proved a happy hunting ground for Spurs since Conte’s arrival, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski shining since their arrival from Juventus in January.

Tottenham’s football managing director Fabio Paratici also signed defender Cristian Romero last summer.

The Argentine, an international teammate of Martinez’s, made his debut at Spurs.

Conte’s Serie A stars helped the north Londoners push rivals Arsenal into a top-four position.
