WINK News has reported on several recent burglaries at properties in Charlotte County. On Friday, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office announced that it had arrested a suspect in those burglaries.
A Port Charlotte business owner reported a lack of funds after reviewing receipts from recent transactions. The owner then reviewed the surveillance footage and noticed a man and an employee in his store wearing a dark shirt with a skull on the right, black shoes, and black shorts. The video shows the man opening a drawer, taking out a stack of cash and putting it in his pocket.
Staff were able to identify the suspect, and detectives identified the suspect as 41-year-old William Crow Jr.. During their investigation, authorities discovered that Crow Jr had collected his belongings and hid in Laishley Park. He intended to run away and avoid being caught.
Crow Jr was later arrested at Laishley Park and taken to the Charlotte County Jail. He faces seven counts of burglary entering an unarmed structure, four counts of theft of peonies and two counts of grand theft.
Because detectives believed Crow Jr to be a flight mishap, he was arrested and held without bond.
Detectives told WINK News Crow Jr was involved in thefts at Pelican Snoballs, Ice Cream Gelato World, and Fabulous Finds.
Authorities continue to investigate and more charges are likely to come at a later date.
