Charleston shooting – “Several people” shot dead and one police officer injured as gun violence erupts in downtown

Several people were reportedly shot dead and a police officer assaulted as gun violence erupted in South Carolina.

Police officers rushed to the crime scene in downtown Charleston just after 11:40 p.m. local time Monday.

Officials said several people were injured, reports WCIV.

The exact number of victims remains unknown while the investigation continues.

They were taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.

Police confirmed that one officer was slightly injured by the gunshots.

And a spokesman for the Charleston Police Department confirmed a deputy was assaulted. Two people were arrested.
