CHAOS erupted at Birmingham’s Legacy Arena as crowds fled in horror after reports of “gunshots being fired” during the AHSAA State Finals.

Officials have since said “there have been no shots”.

Video Posted on Twitter by WVTM13 shows crowds scrambling for safety amid reports of gunfire being fired.

“Everyone please remain seated and remain calm,” an announcer is heard saying to the crowd.

WAAY-TV reports that an incident occurred outside of the arena that started the chaos.

“AHSAA has not officially cleared the floor,” WAAY-TV’s Nolan Knight tweeted.

It was a ‘panic that spread throughout the arena’.

“BJCC security has helped move fans to a safer place.”

Knight tweeted in a follow-up that fans who ran out of the arena in panic will be let back in with their ticket.

Fans have started returning to the arena, Knight tweeted.

According to a tweet from WVTM13, an announcement has since been made stating “everything is safe and secure”.

Vestavia Hills and Hoover face off in the 7A Girls State Title Game.

The girls’ matchup is one of several championship games played at the arena today as part of the AHSAA Basketball Finals.
