A Section 60 giving police officers stop and search powers was in effect until 7am this morning.

Footage from the carnival shows lines of officers forming a human barrier with dogs in tow.

Another video showed a handful of police cars appearing to line the roads surrounding the field.

A helicopter was also heard in video, which appeared to be a police plane.

A witness said: ‘Took the children to Blackheath Carnival and it closed.

“I spoke to some people there who saw someone being doused in acid and set on fire.

“We also saw the police being attacked. There must be a thousand youngsters there.”

He added: “Police are deploying additional resources.

“Please avoid the area. If you think your child is at or near the faire, ask them to return home immediately.”

The Royal Borough of Greenwich also tweeted, urging parents to protect their children.

“Following the chaos at Blackheath Carnival we are asking all parents to ensure their children are kept clear of the grounds for their own safety,” the tweet read.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police are dealing with reports of anti-social behavior and a series of assaults in Greenwich Park.

“A stabbing was also reported; no victim was found.
