Challenging business is ready for customers as we continue to clear the storm

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – The owner of a garden center in Defiance, Missouri, is getting ready to welcome back to business after last week’s tornado and violent storm.

Tony Frisella Sr., owner of Frisella Nursery, says one of the biggest challenges he faces is closing.

“Our problem right now is opening the highway,” he said. “MODOT is working here, we’ve got our teams helping a lot of residents here just helping with cleaning.”

At the intersection of Highway F and Highway 94, the highway turns into one lane.

“They don’t let a lot of people cross the highway, so we’re hoping this weekend they’ll open up for us because it’s important before Christmas,” Frisella said.

Val Joyner, public information officer for St. Charles, issued the following statement: “Patriarchs of Frisella Nursery are allowed to enter the roadway. They should only notify patrol officers that they are a Nursery customer. Then the officers will let them into the roadway. This has been going on for a few days now. ”

Joyner said any further confusion would be resolved.

When Frisella hoped to see more people coming through their door, the nursery was in yet another dilemma. Its greenhouse needed significant repair.

“Getting the facilities ready for our baskets, our perennials, our annuals, that’s really important,” says Frisella.
